Front Bear Hug Arms Trapped - Basic Hip Throw

9/22/2015

Comments

This is a simple defence against a bear hug from the front when you arms could be potentially trapped. We practise this at the white belt level and the main points are:

·        To keep your base low so as not to be taken down to the ground.

·        Establish control of your opponent’s hips.

·       Position your body to the side of your opponent.

·       Finalize with a basic hip throw to your opponent.

Here is how we do it.

Step 1. Opponent moves forward and attempts to take control of your body.

Step 2. Establish a good strong low base by stepping back with either your right or left leg and placing your hands on their hips to create a frame.

Step 3. Move to the outside of your opponent’s hip and take a seat belt grip around your partners body.

Step 4. Control your partners elbow and secure.

Step 5. Step your feet in front of your opponent and prepare for a basic hip throw.

Step 6. Execute the hip throw to finish.
