Defence to a Front Bear Hug – (Arms under)

9/21/2015

Comments

This is a simple defence against a bear hug from the front that we practise this at the white belt level, the main points are:

·        To keep your base low so as not to be taken down to the ground.

·        Establish and secure your opponent’s head for control.

·       Release the grip and finalize.

Here is how we do it.

Step 1. Opponent moves forward and attempts to take control of your body.

Step 2. Establish a good strong low base by stepping back with either your right or left leg.

Step 3. Depending on which side your opponent places their head place the cup of your hand under your opponents chin. Note – if you find that the opponent’s chin is tucked in to closely, simply place the cup of your hand under the nose.

Step 4. Place your other hand across your wrist or hand to secure and reinforce the position.

Step 5. Drive the hands in an upward 45 degree direction to release your opponents grip.

Step 6. Upon your opponents release follow up with a knee strike to either the groin or body and finalize with a downward elbow to the head.
